Hourly to Salary Calculator Guide
How to Calculate Annual Salary From Hourly Pay
Multiply hourly wage by expected paid hours per week and paid weeks per year. This estimates regular gross employment earnings. It does not guarantee that an employer will schedule those hours.
Monthly, semimonthly and biweekly averages divide annual earnings by 12, 24 and 26. The paid-workweek amount uses the actual weekly schedule. With unpaid weeks, that workweek amount differs from annual earnings divided by 52.
Hourly-to-Salary Formula
Annual regular earnings = hourly rate × paid hours per week × paid weeks per year. Monthly average = annual earnings ÷ 12. Semimonthly average = annual earnings ÷ 24. Biweekly average = annual earnings ÷ 26.
Daily regular pay assumes five workdays per week. Overtime is zero by default and, if explicitly entered, is displayed separately using the stated 1.5× assumption. For custom premiums and eligibility rules, use Overtime Calculator.
Hourly to Annual Salary Example
A $25 rate with 40 paid hours over 52 weeks gives $52,000 annually, approximately $4,333.33 monthly and $2,000 biweekly. At $20 under the same schedule, annual earnings are $41,600.
These are gross equivalents before employee taxes, benefit premiums or retirement contributions. Actual deposits follow the employer’s payroll calendar and the hours paid in each period.
How Part-Time Hours Change Annual Salary
At the same rate and weeks, 20 paid hours produce half the regular annual earnings of 40 hours. At $25 for 20 hours and 52 weeks, the result is $26,000. If hours vary, use a realistic average for planning and actual records for payroll.
How Unpaid Weeks Change the Result
At $25 for 40 hours across 48 paid weeks, annual gross earnings are $48,000. Reducing paid weeks lowers earnings. Include paid leave only when it is actually paid at the represented rate.
What About Overtime?
The basic conversion excludes overtime unless you enter it. Optional overtime uses time and a half as an explicit scenario, not a legal determination. Avoid adding overtime twice if you already included its earnings elsewhere.
Gross Salary vs Take-Home Pay
Gross annual earnings are not spendable take-home income. Withholding, Social Security, Medicare and benefit deductions reduce net pay. Use Hourly Paycheck for the gross-to-net step and Income Tax for annual liability questions.
Hourly vs Salary Jobs
Use annual equivalents to compare the scale of two offers, then assess benefits, paid leave, schedule predictability and expected workload. The conversion does not establish employment classification or overtime eligibility.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate annual salary from hourly pay?
Multiply the hourly rate by expected paid hours per week and weeks per year. For example, $25 per hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks equals $52,000 in gross annual earnings.
How do you calculate yearly salary from an hourly rate?
Use Hourly Rate × Hours per Week × Weeks per Year. Keep the work schedule editable because not every worker has 40 paid hours for all 52 weeks.
What is $25 an hour annually?
At 40 hours per week for 52 weeks, $25 per hour equals $52,000 gross per year. Different hours or unpaid weeks change the result.
How do I convert hourly pay to monthly salary?
First calculate the annual equivalent, then divide by 12 for an average gross monthly amount. Actual paychecks depend on the employer's payroll frequency.
Does overtime count in annual salary conversion?
A basic hourly-to-salary conversion usually annualizes regular hours. If overtime is recurring, calculate overtime separately using PayNumera's Overtime Calculator and add it only under clearly stated assumptions.
How do part-time hours affect annual salary?
Annual earnings scale with paid hours. A worker earning the same hourly rate for 20 hours per week will have roughly half the regular-hour annual earnings of a 40-hour schedule, assuming the same weeks per year.
What if I take unpaid time off?
Reduce weeks per year or expected paid hours. Unpaid time lowers gross annual earnings.
Is annual salary the same as annual income?
Not always. Annual income can include bonuses, overtime, commissions, investment income or other sources. This calculator estimates employment earnings from an hourly rate.
Is biweekly salary the same as twice-monthly pay?
No. Biweekly typically means 26 pay periods per year, while semimonthly usually means 24.
How do I compare an hourly offer with a salary offer?
Convert the hourly offer using realistic annual hours, then compare it with the salary amount. Also consider overtime, benefits, paid time off and expected workload separately.
